Note: Welcome to Level D! This sample lesson is an example of what your future lessons will be like. As a warm-up we start each lesson with a vocabulary game followed by your 15 phrases. SCROLL DOWN!!
Learning to use verbs in the subjunctive can be a challenge. We have specially designed Level D lessons to help you learn this important part of the Spanish language, step by step.
When you begin your lesson, you'll see that the same verb appears in different tenses in phrases 7 and 8 and again in phrases 14 and 15. As you progress through level D, comparing these tenses will help you understand how they are used.

Note:Velada means evening or time when referring to a party, concert, etc. taking place during the evening or night.

Here are two examples of the subjunctive when talking about hypothetical situations. It's important to remember that the actions being described are potential occurences, and therefore not real. In these cases, we use a combination of the past subjunctive and would:
If I had taken the elevator in the hotel, I would not have lost my small suitcase. Si hubiera cogido el ascensor en el hotel, no habría perdido mi maleta pequeña.
If it had not rained yesterday, we would have gone on a tour. Si no hubiera llovido ayer, habríamos ido de excursión.
